INTECOL is a reliable helper in the fight against intestinal infections
INTECOL relates to antibacterial preparation of polypeptide antibiotics group.
The active ingredient is colistin sulphate – a representative of the group of polymyxins.
Colistine is active against gram-negative bacteria, including E. coli. Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella spp. Due to its chemical structure colistin like all of polymyxins affects on the cytoplasmic membrane of the bacterial cell by interacting with the phospholipids. It binds to the anionic sites of the membrane and the nature of the action resembles cationic detergents. Damage to the structure of the membrane causes a change in its permeability, both inside and extracellular components, which leads to cell death. Resistance to colistin develops slowly.
When medicine is administered orally than a small amount of Colistine absorbed, it is not exposed to digestive enzymes; thus creating a high concentration of the antibiotic Colistine in the intestine, it can be used for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract. Colistine sulphate does not accumulate in tissues and organs, derived mainly unchanged via faeces.
