COLIMIXIN – a complex of antibacterial preparation for oral use, which is composed of lincomycin and colistin. The components of this preparation do not interact directly with each other, but complement and broaden the spectrum of antimicrobial action. Lincomycin refers to a group of bacteriostatic agents of rapid action while colistin is bactericidal. It is known that bactericidal antibiotics should not be combined with bacteriostatic to determine whether the lack of sensitivity in the study of the antagonism of pathogens in the experiment in vitro. On the other hand it is known that polymyxins, which include colistin, are equally active against both to dividing bacteria and bacteria in rest, which makes it possible to combine them with bacteriostatic agents does not result in an antagonistic effect. Furthermore, the activity of the lincomycin primarily directed against Gram positive bacteria and anaerobic bacteria, including Staphylococci (especially resistant to other antibiotics), streptococci, pneumococci, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, and mycoplasmas. While colistin is effective against Gram negative microorganisms (E. coli. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aerobacter aerogenes* Corynebacterium diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella, Shigella and Pasteurella).

High effectiveness of the medicine observed in the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal diseases. High clinical effect was observed particularly when a secondary intestinal infection on the background of piglets dysentery or poultry necrotic enteritis.
